A computer upgrade and a Chance update

I did a computer upgrade last week.  Not a major upgrade, as in hardware, but a case & power supply upgrade.  I got a new case, a new dvd burner (I had both of mine die in 1 week), new power supply & a hard drive.  The hard drive wasn’t a planned upgrade, it was a necessary one. 

I got all the necessary stuff for my computer upgrade, minus the hard drive.  I went to my nephew’s because I needed his help for a few things.  We got everything switched over & then it was time to boot up.  Well….!  Nothing happened.  I took it back to the table, removed all my pci stuff i.e. video card, tv tuner card, modem, ram.  All that fun stuff & put everything back in again.  This time something did happen.  A noise & not a good one.  I shut off the pc as quickly as I could & removed the hard drive.  It got connected to another pc to check it out.  Found out that it died.  :(  Not good at all.  I lost everything on there!  At least, I thought I did. 

The next day, I was told to put it into my external hard drive case & connect it to my laptop.  I tried 1 program to see if I could get the partition back, but it didn’t work.  :(  I tried another program to try to get my data.  That worked!  yayyy!!!  Maybe now, I’ll learn to back up my important stuff up everyday.

Now, for an update on Chance.  Chance isn’t feeling very well right now.  We think that she’s starting an infection, due to her auto immune.  Her nails are starting to separate again & her toes are sore.  She doesn’t want to play, she’s not eating much & she’s sleeping more than usual.  We’ll be going to her vets to get her some anti-biotics to make her feel better.  Hopefully, we caught the infection early enough, so that it doesn’t take her a long time to bounce back.  Here are a few newer pics that were taken of her.

Taz’s Birthday

Today, February 27, 2009 would have been Taz’s 15th birthday.  It’s coming up to a year since he’s been gone, so this blog is dedicated to his birthday.  Here are some pics of him from when he was little to his very last birthday pic.

One of those days…

Have you ever had one of those days when everything you do or touch goes wrong?  Well that’s me this week.

On Monday, I had this thing for dropping stuff.  It didn’t matter what it was, I’d drop it.  I did get over that when the next thing happened.  I was burning a disc, when the program that I was using aborted the burning process.  No big deal, I thought to myself.  The disk must be bad.  I put a different one into the drive & the strangest thing happened.  It didn’t load the blank disk at all!  I tried to open the drive, but it didn’t want to even open.  So, I took a paperclip & pushed it into the little hole.  Well….what a sound it made!  I had to pull the drawer open to get the disk out.  It now does not work at all.  I’m thinking that the aborted burning process was the start of the drive dying.

On Tuesday, things didn’t get much better.  Chance had puked up some water.  This happens from time to time because she swallows too much air when she drinks.  Not a big deal.  I went into the room where we store the extra paper towels to get a new roll.  On the way out, I tripped onto the step!  In 16 years, I’ve never done that.  Well, I ended up stepping really hard with my right leg.  OUCH!!!  I had hurt my bad knee, again.  I could barely walk for the rest of the day.  I even ended up going to bed early because it was so sore.  Oh yeah, I was still spilling stuff.  I spilt some tea on my desk before I went to bed.

This morning my knee is still sore, but not quite as bad.  I had put a tensor on it overnight & for the morning.  I’m still limping quite a bit & if I’m not careful, it sort of twists & gets really owie.  I’m hoping that within a few days, it’ll feel better.  I’m still spilling, as of this morning.

Crazy February Weather

We’ve been having some really crazy weather here over the past few days.  It all started Sunday over night, into Monday morning.  We got rain & lots of it.  Freezing rain to be precise.  That made for most of Southern Manitoba to shut down.    The roads were like a shiny skating rink.  I didn’t take any pictures of that, but I did take some pictures of what our yard looks like right now.

Right now, the yard is like what it usually gets in mid-late March into April.  Icy, watery, slippery, wet.  Plain icky.  Chance’s kennel is almost completely flooded with the water that fell, as well as the snow that is melting.  Did I mention that our temps are hovering just about zero?  They are, which isn’t good at all, for this time of year.  The worst part is, the temps are supposed to start dropping today & all this rain/freezing rain is supposed to turn to snow.  Oh joy of joys.  How exciting.

Computer Problems Solved and a new Camera

Well, it’s been over a week & I’ve finally figure out & solved my computer problems.  I had to redo my pc again, all because I did something to screw it up again.  Now, it’s finally fixed & all is well.

I got a new camera this week.  New camera=new pics & a short video of Chance.  She isn’t the easiest subject to take a pic of because she keeps moving, just when you want to take it. lol  So, without anymore delay…..

Computer Problems

Just like the title says, I’ve been having computer problems.  I just installed an nvidia video card in my pc, in hopes of fixing some issues.  Well….basically, those issues went away & some new ones came up.  Now, it seems like it’s more difficult to view my pc from the tv in the living room.  There’s a lot more to set up, than there was before.  I use my pc to record from tv, satellite, etc.  Then, once the recording is done, I flick a switch by the tv & you see my pc desktop.  Then we watch whatever it was that I had recorded.  :D

That was the 1st problem.  The next problem is, I had to format my pc after I installed the new/different video card.  That’s all fine & dandy.  When I went to make a new restore disk, the pc froze.  :o  The program I was trying to use, re-screwed up the operating system.  I had to format the pc again.  That was 2x in 2 days.  That took up most of my week, getting everything the way I want it.

All is good now.  The only thing is, that I do not like this nvidia graphic card for what I do most.  Watch movies/recorded tv from my pc to our tv in the living room.  I may have to go back to an ATI card for this.  I’ll keep you posted on that one.

It’s cold here & a pic

Just like the title says, it’s cold here.  We’re onto about the 2nd month of straight bitterly cold weather.  We’ve had a few days of not so cold, but it’s mostly been cold.  I’ve lost track already with how long it’s been this cold.  I think today, we hit a new record for being cold.  I think it was about –50C with the wind-chill or even a bit colder.  When it’s this cold, what’s a few degrees. lol  Winnipeg is the coldest city in Canada today.  What an honour.

All this week, we’ve been eating good cold weather food: beef stew & today Vegetable barley soup.  We still go out when it’s this cold.  Today, we went for a coffee & fuelled up the car.  Chance doesn’t even want to be out for long.  She goes out, does what she needs to & comes back to the gate.  Then, into the house we go before her feet get too cold.  The poor puppy.

Other than that, there hasn’t been much going on here.  I’ve got to replace the video card in my pc because mine has partially fried.  :(  That’s a totally different blog post. :D

Johnny: "none,ma'am.

Little Johnny..
Little Johnny was sitting in class one day. On this particular day, the teacher wanted to ask her class which part of the body went to heaven first.
One little girl raised her hand and said, "I think your mind goes to heaven first because you have to have a mind in order to believe in God."
The teacher praises the little girl as a little boy raises his hand. He says, "I think your heart goes to heaven first because God is all about love." "Very good," said the teacher.
The teacher looked up and saw Little Johnny's hand up. "Oh no," she thought, "I'm not gonna like this "Little Johnny, which part of the body do you think goes to heaven first?"
Little Johnny thinks for a minute and says, "Your feet."
The teacher asked him why he thought your feet go to heaven first.
He replied, "Well, I was walking past my parents' bedroom last night and my mom had her feet up in the air and she said, 'Oh God, I'm coming!', but fortunately Dad was on top of her holding her down."


Hillbilly

Never Choke in a restaurant in the South
Two hillbillies walk into a bar. While having a shot of whisky, they talk about their moonshine operation.
Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. And, after a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, 'Kin ya swallar?'
The woman shakes her head no.
Then he asks, 'Kin ya breathe?'
The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no.
The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue. The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth. As she begins to breathe again, the Hillbilly walks slowly back to the bar.
His partner says, 'Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver' but I ain't niver seed nobody do it!'



Man and A Monkey Go Into a Bar

A guy walks into a bar with his pet monkey. He orders a drink, and while he's drinking, the monkey jumps all around the place.
The monkey grabs some olives off the bar and eats them.
Then he grabs some sliced limes and eats them. He then jumps onto the pool table and grabs one of the billiard balls.
To everyone's amazement, he sticks it in his mouth, and somehow swallows it whole.
The bartender screams at the guy, 'Did you see what your monkey just did?'
'No, what?' replied the man.
'He just ate the cue ball off my pool table... whole!'
'Yeah, that doesn't surprise me,' replied the guy, 'he eats everything in sight. Sorry! I'll pay for the cue ball and stuff.'
The guy finishes his drink, pays his bill, pays for the stuff the monkey ate and leaves.
Two weeks later the guy is in the bar again, and has his monkey with him. He orders a drink and the monkey starts running around the bar again. While the man is finishing his drink, the monkey finds a maraschino cherry on the bar.
He grabs it, sticks it up his butt, pulls it out, and eats it.
Then the monkey finds a peanut, and again sticks it up his butt, pulls it out, and eats it.
The bartender is disgusted. 'Did you see what your monkey did now?'
'No, what?' replied the man.
'Well, he stuck a maraschino cherry and a peanut up his butt, pulled them out, and ate them!' said the bartender.
'Yeah, that doesn't surprise me,' replied the guy.
'Since he popped that cue ball, he measures everything first!'
