Blizzard Warning Out
3:26 PM CDT Wednesday 13 March 2019
Blizzard warning in effect for:
An intense disturbance tracking across the United States will bring strong northerly winds and moderate to heavy snowfall to the southern Red River Valley.
Snowfall associated with this disturbance will enter the region tonight and continue on Thursday before tapering off late Thursday morning or early Thursday afternoon. Total snowfall accumulations of 8 to 15 cm will be possible.
In addition to the snow, intense northerly winds are expected to develop overnight and continue on Thursday. Winds gusting at times to 80 km/h will combine with the falling snow to produce widespread blowing snow resulting in blizzard conditions. As the precipitation exits the region visibilities are expected to improve. However, the strong winds will likely continue to produce heavy drifting and persistent blowing snow into Thursday evening.
Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to MBstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #MBStorm.
